Bio:

  Leo Spizzirri is a first generation Italian-American.  He was born into a culture in which food encompassed all aspects of life. Growing up in a large Calabrese family he was exposed to many customs and traditions.  From early on, Leo was inquisitive about preparing food.  He experimented in the kitchens of his mother as well as his Nana.  Although at times scolded for the tremendous messes and mountains of dirty dishes he would create, his family recognized his passion for food and encouraged him to continue to pursue his dreams.  These cultural experiences shaped his desire to go into the food industry.       
  From small dinner parties, holidays and celebrations Leo slowly began to carry on family traditions. Sunday dinner was a rule for his family, friends would just happen to “be in the neighborhood” to stop by to visit and of course eat! Through the years Leo realized that he could put a smile on almost anyone’s face just by making them something to eat!
  One memorable tradition Leo began was “Friday Night Pizza Nights” which he would host at his house.   This weekly event became so popular he needed to change his venue for lack of space. Friends and family alike would bring a couple of people with and in no time Leo ran out of room to entertain everyone.  It wasn’t long before he decided to take his passion for pizzas on the road.  Having gained amazing notoriety around town, everyone wanted to hire him to host their own “Friday Night Pizza Nights” at their house!  That’s when he realized he wanted to make pizza part of his life and ultimately it has become his career.
  Through experimenting with different flours to make dough and ingredients to make sauce, he was able to take what was once a hobby and make it a career.  Leo is now the corporate chef for Giordano’s Famous Stuffed Pizza in Chicago.  With 45 locations, he can always be seen doing what he loves best, making pizza!  Leo is also the General Manager of Giordano’s flagship store on Rush Street in the heart of the Gold Coast where he feeds thousands of hungry guests a week.  Leo has been trained by 9 time world pizza champion, Tony Gemignani, and also is certified in Classic Italian Pizza, Pizza in Pala, and Pizza in Taglia from the Scuola Italiana Pizzaioli in Caorle, Italy.   
  Leo continues to spread his enthusiasm and love for pizza with those around him.  His talent in creating and enjoying pizza is an art in itself.  He looks forward to much continued success in the pizza arena.
