2 Silvers & 1 Bronze for the World Pizza Champions!

The newly formed World Pizza Champions team brought home 3 medals from the World Pizza Championship in Salsomaggiore, Italy. The WPC brought home more medals ever than any other US Team and placed in events never before touched by the U.S.

Amidst controversy, the WPC took the Silver medal in the coveted “Team Acrobatic” event, missing first place by mere points and marking the first time any U.S. Team has placed in this event. The international panel of 10 judges erupted into arguing as French and English judges voiced disapproval over at an Italian judges very low score. The five man team based their 4 minute routine on the hit movie “The Matrix” , throwing dough while dressed in suits, trenchcoats, and sunglasses.

Team member Michael Shepherd of Michael Angelo's Pizza in Kenton & Rushsylvania, OH took the Silver Medal in “The Fastest Pizza” category. Michael stretched five 200 gram doughballs out to cover five 30cm pizza screens in 45 seconds. Breaking the previous category record of 50 seconds.

Five Time World Champion Tony Gemignani of Pyzanos Pizzeria in Castro Valley, CA took the Bronze Medal in the “Individual Freestyle” category, with a routine that paid homage to the unique dough throwing styles of Japan, Spain, Italy, and the US.

The WPC is now off to the International Pizza Expo in Las Vegas, NV on March 30, 31 & April 1, to organize and manage the newly revived international pizza competition: “The World Pizza Games”.
